Londra, Ragazzi!

Un gruppo di studenti del Centro Linguistico Eureka, con Maria Elena e Sayuri, hanno “esplorato” Londra in lungo e in largo durante il ponte del 1° maggio. Ecco un sunto della recente esperienza:

 “Fantastico! Siamo partiti domenica mattina da Lamezia, per iniziare  questa follia di 3 giorni a Londra. E, stimolati dall’idea del viaggio abbiamo studiato molto  l’inglese!! Potete immaginare quindi come, appena l’aereo decollava, anche noi eravamo al “settimo cielo”!!

Siamo atterrati all’aeroporto di Stantead e, mentre l’autobus ci portava a centro di Londra, abbiamo avuto modo di percorrere i famosi paesaggi di campagna inglese.  Siamo scesi proprio sulla famosissima Oxford Street, dove avevamo prenotato uno splendido hotel.

 Quel pomeriggio stesso, siamo andati in giro per varie zone: Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden… accompagnati dai nostri amici londinesi, Anthoni e Luis ci siamo adattati subito al traffico e a una gran folla!

Il giorno seguente, siamo andati in giro come dei pazzi!  Abbiamo visto Buckingham Palace e il cambio della guardia, St James Park (in cui c’era un gruppo di pellicani brutti brutti), il British Museum  e … più o meno tutta la metro di Londra (il famoso “Tube”).  Immancabile la visita a Harrods, a alla torre di Londra, e al Topwer Bridge,  e magari anche altri posti che ho dimenticato! Lunghissima giornata ma altrettanto piacevole.

L’ultima giornata, dopo una bella colazione all’inglese, siamo usciti di nuovo. Questa volta, però, abbiamo tralasciato la cultura e le antichità di Londra per passare cose più nuove. Anzi, nuovissime. Siamo andati a fare  lo shopping!  Lo abbiamo fatto come se fosse stato l’ultimo giorno di apertura dei negozi! E, dopo aver comprato quasi tutto da Lilly White’s, HMV, e in tutti gli altri negozi su Oxford Street, ci siamo divisi.  Alcuni di noi sono andati a vedere un musical – Il re leone- che era, a dir poco, stupendo; altri sono andati al London Eye, e altri ancora hanno preso degli autobus locali a caso, così hanno sperimentato la “vera” Londra.

E siccome dovevamo essere all’aeroporto ad un orario fra notte e mattina (un orario inimmaginabile), ci siamo incontrati per una cena di mezzanotte, abbiamo preso i nostri bagagli alle 2, e saliti sull’autobus per l’aeroporto ..  A Stanstead qualcuno ha provato a dormire un po’ a terra, ma quei pavimenti erano troppo duri!! Solo un paio di ore dopo, eravamo già in Calabria, stanchi ma contenti. 

E’ stato un viaggio bellissimo – e, nonostante le previsioni -  è piovuto solo una volta!
 

London, Baby!

A group of Centro Linguistico Eureka students, along with Maria Elena and Sayuri, explored London for a long weekend this May. 

“It was great!

We took off on a Sunday morning from Lamezia to start a 3 day extravaganza in London.  We had been studying hard and preparing for this trip all year, so spirits were high as the plane took off. 

After landing at Stanstead Airport, we got our first glimpse of the English countryside as the bus made its way into the heart of London. We got off on Oxford Street, and quickly went to our very nice hotel.  We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering about the area.   Oxford Street, with it’s many shops, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, etc, all guided by our local friends, Anthoni and Luis.  We also spent the afternoon adapting  to the traffic and the crowds!

The next day, we went crazy.  We saw Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard, St. James Park and a group of ugly pelicans, the British Museum in all of its crowded glory, and pretty much all of the London Underground.  We also went to Harrods, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and probably other places I’ve forgotten! All in all, it was an exhausting, but fulfilling day.

The last day, after a good breakfast, we set off again.  This time, though, less old, historic stuff and more new stuff. Really new. We went shopping.  As if the next day, all the stores in the world would be closed forever.  After buying practically everything from Lily White’s, scouring HMVs for the latest releases, and every store in the Oxford Street area, we split up. Some of us went to see a show , ‘The Lion King’, (which was amazing), others rode the London Eye, and others took random buses around the city and saw the real London.

Since we had to be at the airport at some ungodly hour between night and morning,  we all met for a late late dinner, got our luggage and took the bus to the airport. Some of us tried to have naps on the ground, but it was just too hard.   A few hours later, we were back in Calabria, exhausted, but happy.  Overall, it was a great trip.  And it only rained once!!!
